One hope I have when I think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is that I would be able to create a safe space for them in a collaborative and respectful manner so that they can flourish and celebrate their diversity without fear or judgement.
One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity and social justice is that the expression of diversity should be encouraged and accepted at every program and by other families regardless of anyone's personal beliefs. In as much as assimilation is important, I want children and their families to maintain their identities and also feel valued even in their diversity. When educators stand up for social justice, then better policies are enforced to safeguard children.
A brief note of thanks goes to all my colleagues who made intelligent and relatable contributions each week in discussion posts and blog posts. By opening up and sharing your personal stories, I was able to see things beyond my point of view and you were able to soften the harshness and impersonal feeling in online studies. I wish you all well in your future endeavours and upcoming courses.
This is where I share my thoughts and opinions. It is a place for positivity and empowerment
