I asked three people I know to define culture and diversity in their words and to their understanding. They are as follows:
Individual 1: Culture can be defined as the way things have been done by a group of people over the years that has now become the norm.
Diversity can be defined as people of different cultures being tolerant and understanding of one another in their differences.
Individual 2: Culture is the way of life of a particular set of people
Diversity can be defined as the inclusion of everyone regardless of their differences.
Individual 3: Culture is a defining action unique to a set of people and adhered to as the ruling factors that makes up their existence.
Diversity is the acceptance of division of race, culture or belief among a group of people.
The aspects of culture and diversity that I have studied in this course that are included in the answers I received are the fact that culture is a way of life unique to a group of people and also that diversity is all about inclusivity of people that are different in their characteristics.
Thinking about other people's definitions of culture and diversity have made me realise that there is a general idea about those topics. Also, I have the understanding that everyone's definition is valid should be respected
This is where I share my thoughts and opinions. It is a place for positivity and empowerment

Adiele,
ReplyDeleteYour post was very helpful. Each of the individuals provided solid definitions for the terms culture and diversity, however, participant #1 provoked me to think more about how I handle diversity. I consider, am I just tolerant of different cultures?
Thanks for sharing as I continue to ponder on the thoughts of tolerance.
